about

"The Defeatist" written by Born Into Exile and featured artists Bradley Giamalva of "Static Signal" and Tj "Timmy John" Belt of Backburner

The entire album is loosely based on the concept of killing yourself but the inner parts of yourself. In this song the lyrical content pertains to being a "defeatist" which is becoming a better person, letting go and solving your issues or conquering them. In this song the "defeatist" is trying and struggling to move forward but is only being dragged down or falling under. Things have a footnote or grip and eventually begins to spiral into depression.

lyrics

Perpetuating vile sorrows
We rise, rise from the gallows.
Decomposing these lives are so hollow.
Carry the torch of sin as they decay within..

Yesterday's sorrow constantly nears
Embrace it and all of your fears.

Sustain
The poison in my brain.
It all erodes in dismay.
Consume the malice that fuels me.
It all erodes in dismay
The defeatist becomes free
Sustain
Until the malice entombs me.

Putrid filth spewed from the black of your rotten mouth
Did you try to drag me down?
Bury me in the ground?
You wont deprive me of my pride.
Your conceited greed boiled away my fucking mind

Yesterdays sorrow constantly nears
Embrace it and all of your fears

Sustain
The poison in my brain
It all erodes in dismay
Consume the malice that fuels me
It all erodes in dismay
The defeatist becomes free
Sustain
Until the malice entombs me

You don't have to die to be dead to me..

Sustain
The poison in my brain
It all erodes in dismay
Consume the malice that fuels me
It all erodes in dismay
The defeatist becomes free
Sustain
Until the malice entombs me..
